HHH Ranch utilizes an Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) program designed to help improve the life course of hurting children and begin the process of healing. Through genuine connections and gentle guidance our "Stable Moments" program serves children, ages 3-22, who are in foster care or post adoption.
Traumatic life events are shocking, scary, or dangerous experiences that can affect a child emotionally and physically.
Stable Moments is a unique equine-assisted learning program designed to support children in foster care. With over 500,000 children in foster care, many of whom have experienced significant trauma, there is a crucial need for personalized, 1:1 mentoring programs that help children build self-esteem, make healthy choices, and successfully transition into adulthood.
The Stable Moments® Certification Program equips therapeutic equine professionals with a structured "train the trainer" curriculum. This empowers them to develop life skills in children using a proven program model. Through this initiative, mentors help children develop key life skills such as self-worth, emotional awareness, self-regulation, responsibility, independence, and healthy relationships.
Every child entering the program begins with an intake assessment, where program directors work with guardians to assess the child’s history, strengths, interests, and challenges. This ensures the program is the right fit for each child. Based on this assessment, an individualized, color-coded plan of care is created to target specific life-skill goals.
Mentorship is the core of Stable Moments. Each participant is matched with a mentor for a 10-month program. Mentors and children collaboratively plan each session, incorporating activities that foster connection, life-skill development, and transition-building. The activities—both equine and non-equine—are color-coded according to the child’s plan of care, enabling mentors to select therapeutic interventions that are engaging, fun, and tailored to the child’s needs.
Progress is closely monitored through pre- and post-test assessments, alongside activity logs completed by mentors. This data allows the program to track each child's progress and demonstrate the overall impact of the program. Stable Moments offers a comprehensive, trauma-informed approach to mentoring, providing children with the tools they need to build resilience and thrive, despite their past experiences.

Horse Powered Learning goes beyond the traditional classroom experience by incorporating movement and interaction with horses into academic lessons. By engaging with horses, students practice reading and math skills in ways that are active, fun, and memorable. They don’t just memorize facts—they experience the learning firsthand. Whether it’s decoding words, building fluency, or strengthening vocabulary, students are empowered to overcome obstacles in a way that feels natural and engaging. This unique approach integrates both academic lessons and emotional growth, allowing students to learn in a holistic way that engages not just their minds, but their entire bodies.
At our ranch, we’ve found that integrating horses into the learning process unlocks a whole new world of possibilities for students. Horses are highly intuitive animals, known for their sensitivity to human emotions and non-verbal cues. The horses offer instant feedback, allowing students to adjust their approaches in real-time, which helps them connect with their own emotions, overcome academic barriers, and solidify the learning process. This process also allows students to develop critical life skills, such as emotional regulation, empathy, and communication.
No prior horse experience is necessary. Children engage with the horses on the ground, learning how to safely interact with them while reaping the academic benefits. Our trained facilitators customize each session to the individual needs of the student, ensuring that the experience is both accessible and effective.
